Organic Indian Tikri (Amla) powder
Thousands of years before Nobel Prize-winning scientist Linus Pauling presented evidence of the therapeutic properties of vitamin C, amla (often called Indian gooseberry) was used as a medicine by Ayurvedic doctors. Amla is one of the most antioxidant-rich fruits found in nature. Amla has been investigated for its many benefits and uses, including boosting immunity; protecting cells from free radicals that prevent oxygen uptake; and slowing the ageing process.
Amla (Phyllanthus emblica) is a member of the Euphorbiaceae family and matures in autumn in the humid forests and mountainous regions of the Indian subcontinent. The tree that bears this amazing fruit is considered sacred in India. Amla is often eaten there with salt and chilli powder, or made into pickled snacks or candied sweets. Although amla is sour, it leaves a sweet aftertaste when eaten raw. Paradoxically, this sour fruit has the potential to reduce stomach acidity and is often used in Ayurvedic medicine to treat stomach problems, ulcers, heartburn and acid reflux.
Herbalist Vidhi Bhatia wrote that the use of amla “originates from the 5,000-year-old traditional Indian medical system Ayurveda, a discipline that focuses on promoting good health, supporting the immune system and rejuvenating and revitalising the body and mind”.
Various studies claim that a hundred grams of raw amla contains several times more vitamin C than a lemon.
In addition, the fruit is considered exfoliating and trimming. Regular use will make your skin younger and smoother. It is also often used to make hair shinier and healthier.
The recommended daily amount is ¼-½ teaspoon of amla powder to be taken with warm water once or twice a day.
Caution!
Amla is an adaptogenic herb that is generally considered safe to consume. However, there are cases where it is best to be careful.
There is some evidence to suggest that people with iron deficiency should be cautious as amla can bind iron, thereby reducing beneficial iron levels in the blood.
In case of pregnancy, breast-feeding or taking certain medications, we recommend consulting a doctor or a brain specialist. Keep out of reach of small children!
