Thyme is a food plant with both culinary and medicinal properties. He comes from southern Europe and the Mediterranean. The most common variety of thyme is called Thymus vulgaris or French thyme. There are several explanations for the origin of the name Thymus. Some <\/span>think<\/span>that the Latin name Thymus comes from the Greek word t\u0267yo (aroma) of others, <\/span>that <\/span> from the Greek t\u0267ymos (courage, strength). Did you know that people have known the properties of thyme for 3000 years BC? The ancient Sumerians used it as an antiseptic. It was highly valued as a spice, but more as a medicinal herb. <\/span><\/p>\n

Thyme has many health-giving properties and is rich in nutrients, vitamins and minerals. <\/span><\/p>\n

The tiny leaves of thyme release a fragrant essential oil that is used to make toothpastes, soaps, deodorants, medicated cosmetic creams, etc. Among the 39 components identified are hair crool, p-cymene, linaol, mycene, borneol, etc., and especially abundant (20-54%) thymol, which has strong antibacterial and antiviral activity. <\/span><\/p>\n
