Organic wholemeal spelt flour
Spelt flour is made from an ancient type of wheat, which has a slightly nuttier and sweeter flavour than regular wheat. It is rich in protein, fibre and essential nutrients, making it a healthier alternative to regular wheat flour. Spelt flour is often used in bread, muffins, pancakes and pasta, giving them a light texture and unique flavour. Because it contains gluten, it can be used in a similar way to regular wheat flour, although some people find it easier to digest.
Unlike other wheat varieties, spelt is covered with bran, which naturally protects the grain from diseases and pests. Thus, unlike conventional wheat, spelt does not require pesticides.
Spelta is also resistant to environmental pollution. This cereal is seldom grown industrially, as yields are similar in fertilised and unfertilised fields.
