Organic gomasio – roasted sesame seeds with sea salt
Gomasio (or gomashio) is a traditional Japanese condiment based on roasted sesame seeds and salt. Its name comes from two Japanese words: goma (sesame) and shio (salt). Gomasiol has a long history of use in East Asian cuisine, particularly in Japan, where it has been used both to enhance the flavour of food and as a healthier alternative to regular salt. This spice is valued for its ability to give food a deep, nutty flavour with less salt.
Gomasi is often used to flavour rice, vegetables, pasta or soups. It is also popular in vegetarian and macrobiotic diets because of its simplicity and nutritional value – sesame seeds are a good source of healthy fats, proteins and minerals. Because of its intense flavour, gomasio is a natural flavour enhancer, helping to reduce the overall salt intake of food.
