Spearmint is a perennial aromatic plant of the mint family (Lamiaceae), native to Europe and Asia. It has a mild, slightly sweet aroma, reminiscent of the fresh scent of green leaves. Unlike peppermint, spearmint does not contain menthol (or contains very little), making it milder and less pungent.

Green mint has traditionally been used:
for relieving indigestion, in tea, cooking (especially in Mediterranean cuisine), as a natural flavouring in chewing gum, toothpastes and mouthwashes.
Tea (brew of dried or fresh leaves) –
Amounts: 1-2 teaspoons of dried herbs or ~5-10 fresh mint leaves.
Preparation: pour on 250 ml hot (not boiling) water, allow to infuse for 5-10 minutes, strain.
Directions for use: 2-3 times a day after meals to improve digestion or reduce nausea.
